The Incredibles Family Matters Mark Waid Marcio Takara Books

THE INCREDIBLES: FAMILY MATTERS collects all four issues of the limited series from Boom! Studios, and the cool thing is that writer Mark Waid and artist Marcio Takara, for the most part, are able to successfully translate the breezy feel and fun of the Pixar film onto these pages. This all-ages series is perfectly suited for kids, so if your young 'uns are jonesing for some sort of follow-up to the film, then this is a smooth transition. And, apparently, this is the official continuity. The creative team does a terrific job of preserving the charm, humor, and stylized visuals of the film. You could almost hear that cool jazzy soundtrack in the background.

The series doesn't go into whatever happened with the government's mandate against costumed vigilantes but, clearly, the public is now well aware of the Incredibles family, and the public approves. Things seem to be going smooth for the Parrs, that is until Bob Parr, a.k.a. Mr. Incredible, shockingly learns that he's gradually losing his super-strength. Doc Sunbright, physician to the supers and Costume Maker Edna's cousin, has conducted several tests but finally admits that he has no clue as to why Mr. Incredible's power is on the wane. Rendered a liability on the field, Bob gets grounded, with his wife Helen taking over field command.

And on the civilian side, there's that hassle of the new neighbors and also the hazards of Bob's firing up the new grill and not inviting his buddy Frozone. Mark Waid makes sure that we recognize the central characters, their personality traits come thru intact. It's nice to see Violet continue to emerge from her shell and to see Dash keep on being so hyper and impetuous.

See the Incredibles confront the menace of Futurion... and his dinosaur army (at which sight, Dash exclaims "Cool!")! See Bob play a one-on-one game of hoops with his neighbor! See Bob and Helen debate about who has the better rogues gallery! See Bob, stuck at home, change Jack-Jack's nasty diaper. Then see a vengeance-minded supervillain emerge from the past! There is also a monkey. And a baffling mystery to solve. Listen, THE INCREDIBLES: FAMILY MATTERS is just a fun comic book. It's vastly recommended. Bonus material consists of a bonus gallery, in which you can compare and contrast Marcio Takara's art with other artists who turn in alternate cover work. I think you'll agree that Takara's clean and breezy renderings hearken closer to the film's look than, say, Mike Mignola's shadowy stuff. Tom Scioli also submits some art, but he's got this Jack Kirby thing going on, and it's interesting but not at all ideal for the Incredibles. Marcio Takara also turns in six pages of sketches and character designs.

The Incredibles Family Matters Mark Waid Marcio Takara Books Reviews

To start off, The Incredibles is my favorite Disney/Pixar movie and I have been hoping for a sequel. Since there has been no word of such a thing happening, I decided I'd give these comics a try.
I was hoping they would be good, but they exceeded my expectations. The transition from 3D to 2D was handled very well and all the characters are recognizable in their new forms. The art itself is very bright and colorful, making it very appealing to look at.
The story for this first book was very enjoyable. The Incredible Family is continuing to fight the bad guys, while at the same time Bob is trying to hide a secret from his family. When Bob's secret is revealed and a bigger plot presents itself, it's up to the Incredibles to face the challenge and save the day. The ending was both fitting and cute, but most importantly it made me want to read the next collection of stories.
If you liked The Incredibles and you're looking for a good all ages comic, then this will be for you. It's just plain fun to read and it will be worth your while to pick it up.
The Incredibles are a crime fighting family, but after a new neighbor moves in, Bob begins to lose his powers.

Overall, this book is okay. There are some good ideas here, and the art is nice and fun to read, and certainly there's some emotional depth to plum with Bob's loss of powers. However, I felt more could have been done. There's a certain predictability about the plot if you've seen the film, so it's not great.

Still, there's some fun to be had here which make this an okay read.
Thanks for having this and having it be so readily available for shipping. This made my grandson's Christmas and that is what I was shooting for. Thanks for having it!
The writer really captures the characters' way of speaking in this story! Just like in the film.

Good original characters are added, and excellent art carries it through.

And look at the book with the DJ off! Great Kirby-homage art on the hardcover edition. Comes with a sewn-in red ribbon for a bookmark (a nice, quality touch).

Well worth your money! Buy now, before the volume sells out!

By the way, there are MORE COLLECTIONS!

This is one of my son's favorite books. We are big fans of The Incredibles and this is a fun and touching book. It is a nice size, bigger than the Marvel Aventures books (which I think are much too small). It's too bad that you have to hunt down used books just to find The Incredibles graphic novels (or Wall E for that matter). I would love to see more action packed Pixar graphic novels in this size and format. They are well done and good quality.
