Melanie “Mel” Jones has always had a calling to help others. So after finding out that her best friend Karen Moore is being abused by her husband, Mel takes action. She takes Karen across the country to hide in an old family home in Newport Oregon.
Shortly after moving there, Mel and Karen find a journal belonging to a long dead relative of Mel’s. However, as they read the diary, they quickly discover that the author of the journal may not, in fact, be dead after all - at least not in the way they believe.
As the pages fly, Karen and Mel will discover that the author has lived a most extraordinary life, and that they have a lot more in common with the author than they realize. While Mel and Karen immerse themselves in the journal, there is still a real-life threat hunting them down.
What secrets will Mel and Karen discover in the pages of the journal? Will they be able to escape the clutches of Karen’s husband, or will history repeat itself?

This was my first time reading a Vampire novel. I never read any before, but thought It was time to choose something out of my comfort zone, and I was pleasantly surprised. What an engaging story, with a well thought out plot. The main characters are very relatable and the link to their past history was very cleverly done! T.L. Coulter might well be an author to watch!L. Seawell

I didn't research this book before reading it, but I hope this going to be a series. I loved it!
This is an awesome book with a great concept for a story. You really feel for the characters, especially Karen's struggles. I've never been a big fan of love stories but I'm really glad I picked this book up. The story drew me in and I couldn't put the book down!
I won this book in the Valentine Book Hop. I was hooked from the first chapter. I really enjoyed following Allie's struggle to overcome her past and her need to find and reconnect with the love of her eternal life. All the characters intertwined so well.
It has been a long time since I have read a Vampire book so I was excited to read this one. First off, I really liked how this story was told. There is the present day story and then the journal entries from 100 years ago to present day. The main character, Karen, is physically abused by her husband and with the help of her friend ,Melissa, leaves her husband secretly and move across the country. Melissa's family has a house in Oregon that has been in the family for years. This is where the two friends first discover a journal that was left by one of Melissa's ancestors. The writer of the journal, Allison, says she is a vampire and goes on to tell the story of how she became so. Her story is similar to Karen's. Allison's sister was abused and murdered by her husband. I loved how the two stories mirrored each other. Oh and by the way, Allison's last entry was to Karen and Melissa the night they moved in! The story has more characters and plot twists but I don't want to ruin it for you. I think one of my favorite lines from the book is in the dedication. Ms. Coulter writes, "I dedicate this book to all the women who have ever known abuse in their lives. No one should ever have to suffer in an abusive relationship. You are beautiful, your are strong, and you are so much more than they deserve."
My favorite book by TL Coulter so far! I loved every minute and the plot kept me so caught up constantly wondering what would happen next!! Of course I'm always partial to a good vampire book...but with this book you're getting two stories in one. Reading about the lives of our main characters, Karen and Mel, while also learning the history behind our vampire, Allison. TL Coulter always has a way of making me love and feel connected to the characters in each of her books. I absolutely loved the plot and loved that this is a stand alone book where you aren't waiting a year to know what happens in the next book. I really enjoyed reading between journal entries of Allison in her past and the obstacles Karen and Mel have to overcome, I just kept telling myself one more chapter which ended with me finishing the book in a day...oops. I would definitely recommend this book to any lover of fantasy or even historical fiction.
I really liked this book. I read it in one day! I'm ready for book 2!! Tells a story of the past and future at the same time.
