I was asked to read this book by a good friend. Her son had written the book, Tug O' War and Other Drinking Games, and she wanted my opinion. I was not overly excited because I felt it was targeting a younger audience, college age kids.
I just started reading it, almost finished, and I can't stop thinking about the book and the characters. I keep asking my grown children, 22 - 28, if this kind of stuff is really going on at college? I don't think that I am naive, however, I had no idea that there was THIS MUCH experimentation going on with drinking, drugs and sexual conduct. Of course I know that there is drinking, some drugs and some sex, but this is dangerous.
I value the great relationship that I have with my children and feel that we talk more than most families about any topic. I feel that I did try to communicate with them about drinking too much, not approving of other drugs, and always protecting themselves when sexually active. I thought I was communicating to the point of "TMI."
After reading this book about college age kids and their big adventure on a road trip, I realize that I did not ask or chat about many things that I should have with them.
I highly encourage any parent of a college age student or soon-to-be college student to read this book. Possibly have your child read this after you so you can have a discussion with your child about what you feel is appropriate behavior, what is an addict or alcoholic, and what is NOT a safe situation.
I wish I had read this book, Tug O' War and Other Drinking Games, before my boys went off to college. Thank G-d (or my lucky stars) that they made it to graduation safely.Tug O' War and Other Drinking Games

"Tug of War and Other Drinking Games" is a whimsical and colorful novel that will leave you yearning for many epic adventures. Whether it be the thrill of a spontaneous road trip or an intoxicating new romance, this novel inspires the wild side in us all. Not to mention, the author uses brilliant imagery to describe these lively scenarios. I highly recommend this book!
I really enjoyed this book. It follows two best friends, Nathan and Riley, who end up on an unexpected road trip with a stranger they just met after a night of drinking. The adventure that ensues is filled with parties and new experiences, and the two struggle with their love for one another, and their fear that if they try, it won't work out. This book is filled with themes of young adulthood the uncertainty of love, confusion about the future, and the desire for escape and adventure. The author weaves the story together nicely, making it an easy read, I finished it in just a few days. Personally, I really liked the way the author used colors to describe the emotions the characters are feeling, it painted a vivid picture. Read this book!
